My beloved Blackberry had been acting up for the past few weeks. Programs had not been working, the screen was freezing up and messages mysteriously appeared and disappeared before I had a chance to check them. So yesterday I decided to use my lunch break to visit the Silver Spring T-Mobile store. There was no order in which customers were served so in Trina-esque style I "helped" them establish an ad hoc customer service system. The Customer Service Representative (CSR) that "assisted" me knew less than I did about Blackberries. She had a good ole time scrolling around on my screen which I guess in her world meant she was accomplishing something. To make a long story short, my visit was unproductive and I left pretty disappointed.
The only information I left with was that another CSR recently downloaded the beta version of 4.5 OS. When I asked how I could obtain this long lost desperately saught after OS she told me to "Google it". I wish I could say that CSR was being sarcastic but that wasn't the case. If it was that simple to just Google It wouldn't I have it already? She really had no clue what she was doing which leads me into another Blog topic, "Why do you do what you do when you know damn well you dont know what the fuck you're doing?" I was sure to give her my "BITCH PLEASE" look as I headed out the door to salvage the rest of my lunch hour on actually getting lunch.
When I got home I decided to check out a few Blackberry forums to get updates on when 4.5 would be released. I've been hearing/reading about rumors of the capabilities of 4.5 since around Thanksgiving '07. The only thing my searches turned up were dead links and explainations of Forum moderators having to delete any posts providing the beta version software links. I tried finding it through T-Mobile's website and for some reason that didn't help either so finally I went to BlackBerry's site. Low and behold, I found not only 4.5 but the new release of 4.6!
I was up most of the night configurating, deleting, and rebooting my way to 4.6. Finally around 4:30 a.m. I was successfull and yes it was worth it. Highlighted capabilities are recording videos, access to YouTube, the browser is MUCH more user friendly, and all those pesky little glitches I experienced are no longer.
So with all that said, here are my tips to successfull upgrading:
- Unplug your Blackberry from the USB cord connected to your computer.
- Delete your old Desktop Manager through Control Panel > Programs > Unistall a Program.
- Go to the Blackberry Web site using this link to download 4.6.
- Follow the download instructions.
